Hair Extensions For Fine Hair

Hair extensions are not only meant for long, voluminous hair like Kim Kardashian, but they are perfect for fine and short hair. Believe it or not, most of our clients have fine hair and are looking for natural hair. So many of our fine-haired clients are over 35 years old, have experienced hormonal imbalances or their hair has thinned over the years. If this describes you, then read on.

A shampoo/conditioner, styling product, or topical solution will not change your hair, they are most likely a temporary fix that may or may not add a bit of volume to hair.

Working with fine hair has been my passion for decades.  Many clients walk in the salon with pictures of hair that they wish to achieve, but impossible for my two hands to give to them.  Hair extensions have been the gift that has allowed me to give clients a fuller perhaps longer head of hair that they desire.

What You Need To Know

  1. Most likely individual strand hair extensions will work best on fine hair since they can be customized, are easy to hide, and do not add tension and weight to your own hair.
  2. Less is more. It is important to not add too much weight to fine hair this is done but not adding too many extensions, not adding too much length, and perfectly applied away from the scalp as to not add tension.  The extensions are placed approximately 1/4 inch away from the scalp, brushing right through them with a boar bristle brush or wet brush works well.
  3. It is important to have at least 4 to 5 inches of natural hair to cover the micro-attachments (especially on top and crown of the head).   There are many salons that may attempt to add extensions with less length, but this will not create a natural look and the end result may resemble a "mullet."
  4. When researching a salon/stylist for your hair extensions, be sure to ask for a free consultation and a portfolio of their work.  You will want to see the color they choose to match your hair since this will create a proper blend.  At Noelle Salon, we stock all of our hair for immediate viewing or application.
  5. Make sure your stylist explains the proper hair care for your new hair and written instructions are better.
  6. Ask if you can check in after wearing your extensions, it is important to ensure you are working well with them.  We offer a free two-week check, at this time we can evaluate your extensions, address any issues you may be having and ensure your extensions will last the appropriate time frame.

Be ready to care for some extra hair and blow-drying is very important especially in areas where the extensions are attached.  Leaving hair wet can cause the attachment to break down faster, as well as avoiding oils directly on the attachment.

Remember, the hair extensions, albeit human hair, may require a bit extra humectant type product such as a leave-in conditioner on the ends for moisture.  Like our own hair, the more you do to the hair extensions such as flat ironing and curl ironing will dry or damage them, therefore, the less thermal heat the better.

You can literally wash and use products on your own hair (the hair left out of the extensions) with a different product than the hair extensions.  This is done by simply dividing your hair from the extensions. For fine hair, you may want to use a shampoo/conditioner for volume and mousse and on the extensions, you can use products intended for thicker hair.  Your stylists should have the right products for you and explain how to use them.

There are many hair extension brands like Bellami hair which have tape-in extensions with a variety of color matches yet they will not in most cases satisfy your comfort and maintenance. At Noelle Salon we focus on quality and your lifestyle through Virgin human hair extensions, using our pull-thru method with silicon-covered microbeads which allows for the adjustment of hair tension, is great for sensitive scalp, and makes maintenance and removal easy without damage to your thin hair.

Do you have fine hair?  If so, feel free to ask questions and let me help you to decide if they are right for you.
