How To Care For Hair Extensions During Covid-19

You invested in beautiful hair extensions and you are socially distancing during the Covid-19 pandemic.  You may be compelled to remove them, cut them, visit a stylists home (not recommended). As hair extension specialists for over 20 years, we would like to share some of our best advice!

                         Aurora shares her expert advice on caring for hair extensions!

1). Do not remove your hair extensions on your own!  Whether you have keratin bonds, micro links, hand tied or tape hair - removing extensions on your own can lead to breakage and disaster.  It looks easy on a youtube video, but remember you not only need to remove the attachment but the many strands of hair that have shed while wearing extensions.  Shedding is a natural process and will remain in the attachment until the extensions are removed, removing shedding is tough.  We pray to be back to normal soon, so please be patient and wait for your stylist.

2) Brush your hair and brush some more to avoid tangling and knots.  You can brush through the extensions with a "wet brush" and/or boars bristle brush from roots to ends.  If you loose an individual extension or tape do not freak out, this can be quite normal.  Brushing will help to avoid matting and extensions from intertwining into one another.  You can also use your hands to separate the extensions.

3) Clarify your roots (see video) and moisturize from mid-shaft to ends.  If you are not washing as often, particularly if you have oily hair, you can use a gentle clarifying shampoo to remove oils and then use a moisturizing sulfate free shampoo on the rest of you hair.  It is important to use leave in products on the mid-shaft and ends of extensions especially if they are long!  If you have run out and can not make it to the store - try using some coconut oil on the ends of the extensions and rinse thoroughly.

4). Dry your hair and if this is a problem, dry the top of your hair and where the extensions are attached.  Leaving your hair wet may cause your extensions to loosen and possibly detach.

5) Take this time to pamper yourself and your hair!  Look at the canals in Venice, they are clearing up due to less people.
