Do not use velcro to attach a hair topper
As a specialist in hair loss with a focus on attaching hair toppers, I have single-handedly attached thousands of hair toppers. That being said, I have removed hair toppers that have been attached by other salons, and hair loss centers. I do not want to disparage other professionals' work, but I do want to stress that certain hair topper applications are very damaging to natural hair.
I am excited that some newer application methods do not require any shaving, but I am concerned about having a hair system, aka hair topper, glued directly onto natural hair. In my opinion, it is important to maintain the integrity of a client's hair, whether or not they are experiencing hair loss. The removal process of a glued-down topper will pull out natural hair, only leading to more hair loss. It is preferred to keep your own hair healthy, after all, there are many advancements in hair loss (including medication) that may allow for new hair growth. Why damage your natural hair when there are many other ways to attach a hair topper without gluing on your hair?
Pictured is a client that had a hair topper applied with a tight braid, nail glue, fishline, and velcro. This attachment pulled out an excessive amount of her own hair, the velcro is bulky and was glued on her own hair, as well as the hair topper. The hair topper did not sit flat on her head, and removing the glue, braid, fish line, and velcro was quite a difficult task.
We used our own method of beaded attachment; no glue, braids, velcro, fishline, or sewing. The beaded matrix is created around the perimeter of the hair topper and will stay put for up to 4 weeks. We used our client's very expensive topper, and plan to transition to a smaller hair topper once her own hair begins to grow back.
The type of hair topper, the base construction, and application will make for the most natural look. I would recommend consulting with many specialists prior to applying a hair topper!
