What Is the Difference Between Hybrid Weft And Hand Tied Weft?
The questions are pouring in asking; "what is the difference between hybrid wefts and hand-tied wefts?" The new hybrid weft a.k.a. "Genius weft," is the second generation of weft extensions. Hand-tied wefts have been in existence for nearly two decades, years ago, we would use hand-tied hair to create individual strand extensions because of its superior quality.

The extensions range in weight from 18 to 24 grams depending if the hair is double drawn (double the thickness) or single drawn. The amount of hair applied varies based on hair thickness; thick hair requires more rows and wefts than fine hair. Since the wefts are very thin, they are able to be stacked upon each other, and mixing colors will create a perfect color blend.
Many customers prefer the hand-tied method because they are light in weight, the track is easier to hide and they are more comfortable than machine wefts which can be bulky. Machine weft hair extensions are two to three times thicker than hand-tied wefts and can be problematic in fine hair.

The hybrid weft was created to give all the benefits of hand-tied hair with two major exceptions.
1) Since Hybrid Weft hair extensions are made by a machine, they are stronger than hand-tied hair and will last longer when re-used.
2) Hybrid hair extension wefts do not have return hairs (a.k.a. "hair beard"). The return hair that is wrapped around the string of hand-tied hair extensions can be quite annoying in a few ways. Many complain that the hair is itchy against the scalp and tangles into their natural hair.
3) The hybrid hair extension weft can be cut, hand-tied hair extensions will unravel when cut. If a stylist does not recognize they are working with hand-tied hair, and they cut the weft the hand-tied hair is destroyed. Over time, the weft will begin to shed and be rendered useless. The fact that the weft can be cut creates a custom application since head size varies from person to person.
4) The hair extension wefts contain more hair per square inch since they are double drawn. We are still able to stack the extensions and blend colors. Custom color combinations will create the best match to the natural hair left out of the hair extensions. They are sold in 120-gram packages, which allows for less hair waste.
The major difference between hybrid wefts and hand-tied wefts is longevity. They are more resilient and will not shed as quickly as hand-tied wefts while still offering the benefit of a micro-weft.
