What are virgin natural hair extensions?
Virgin hair extensions for natural hair are different from the industry term "virgin hair," which means the hair extensions come from one donor (one person). The term virgin hair when related to naturally curly hair means the hair is unprocessed. Although there is a variety of hair extension textures, natural curly can be customized to create a perfect color match! I often combine curl patterns to create a perfect texture! Wearing curly hair in its natural state is quite popular these days.
Virgin (one-donor) hair is color processed differently by not using traditional hair color, instead, factories use fabric dye to accomplish a variety of colors. There is a distinct difference between the two types of virgin hair.
The most popular unprocessed virgin hair comes from Brazil and certain areas of India. I love that Brazilian hair is ethically sourced with a map of its origin.
What's even better is we can custom-create a variety of application methods;
1) Sew-in (beaded row or braided)
2) Individual Keratin Strands
3) Tape hair extensions
Please take note, we do not recommend the "Brazilian knot" hair extension method, it is highly stressful on hair follicles, and may lead to hair loss.
It is important when lifting or bleaching natural hair to strand test prior to applying bleach, why? because there is "counterfeit" hair in the market place. Counterfeit hair not be virgin hair, processed, permed and impossible to customize. Unless you are certain of the source of your hair, it is essential to strand test.
I have also helped clients relax tight coil hair extensions, I prefer to do a keratin treatment versus a harsh relaxer, it is best to trade in the hair for a perfect texture. The benefits of virgin hair is that you can not only customize hair color, but you can subtly change the texture.
1) re-texturize with a reverse ammonium thio hair permanent
2) de-frizz with a keratin treatment
Keep in mind, hair extensions do not have natural hair oils running through them, therefore, they can become dry. Invest in a humectant product that infuses protein into the hair, especially during dry winter months or summer.
