How Much Do Hair Extensions Cost?
The cost of hair extensions varies for many reasons. We will break down the cost of hair extensions including an in-salon application, as well as the method of hair extensions. All prices are based on 100% Remy human hair which is the industry standard. Prices are based on an initial application, as well as a full set for length and volume. Adding less hair for volume is less costly.
1) Hair Quality (human, Remy hair or, virgin hair)
2) Salon location (city vs. suburb and state)
3) Method of hair extensions
4) Application TIme
Tape Hair Extensions
Price range $300 to $750
Key facts: Reusable (varies based on hair growth, at-home care, and hair quality)
How long do Hair Extensions last? You are looking at 6 months to 1 year.
Application time: 1 to 3 hours
Re-application: 6 to 8 weeks
Tape hair extensions are the easiest to apply, therefore, the initial cost is lower than other hair extension methods. Keep in mind, the re-application will take much longer than the initial application since the extensions need to be removed by dissolving the tape, natural hair shedding is removed, the hair is re-taped and reapplied. Allow for extra time for hair washing. Removal takes about 1 (+/-) hour.
Keratin Bonded Hair Extensions
Price range $500 to $1500
Keratin bonded hair extensions are consist of individual strands of hair with a small tip of adhesive that is melted into the hair. The application is labor-intensive, requiring several hours to apply. Each extension contains approximately 25 strands of hair (vary based on weight), and they are attached to 40+ strands of natural hair.
Key facts: Generally not reusable, but can be re-tipped and re-used. Many do not re-use the extensions since they may thin out.
How long do Keratin Bonded Hair Extensions last? You are looking at about 4 to 6 months
Application TIme: 3 to 6 hours
Re-application: 25% off the time, but the removed extensions may be shorter than when initially applied. Most will remove and apply a new set. Hair should grow while wearing which allows for less hair used when re-applied. Removal of these hair extensions takes up to 1 to 2 hours.
I-Tip Hair Extensions
Price range $600 to $1800
I tip hair extensions are applied individually like keratin bonded hair extensions. A small shoe-string size tip is inserted into a micro-link, the link and closed with pliers. Keratin bonded extensions are more resilient and do not slip out of the hair as i-tips. I-tips require a labor-intensive application. Removal of I-Tip Hair Extensions can take up to 1 to 2 hours.
Key facts: These extensions are re-usable.
How long do I-Tip Hair Extensions last? On average 6 months to 1 year depending on at-home care and hair quality.
Application time: 4 to 8 hours
Re-application: You can expect a maintenance interval of 8 to 10 weeks. Most will add more extensions because of shedding.
Veila Pull-Thru Hair Extensions
Price range $650 to $1000
Key facts: Veila Pull-Thru is a hybrid method where hair is pulled through holes and linked together with micro-links. The links are undetectable hidden under a hair envelope. They are reusable and gentle on natural hair. Removal takes less than 1 hour.
How long do Veila Pull-thru Hair Extensions last? You are looking at 6 months to 1 year depending on at-home care.
Application time: 2 to 4 hours
Re-application: Your maintenance expectation is in 6 to 10 weeks. Consecutive application takes less time than other methods which makes consecutive appointments less costly.
Sew-In Hair Extensions
Price range: $500 to $1400
key facts: Sew-in hair extensions use a variety of hair wefts from hand-tied, machine wefts, flat wefts, and hybrid/genius wefts. The wefts are sewn into a micro-link grid with recommended nylon thread. Removal takes about 1 (+/- ) hour.
How long do Sew-in Hair Extensions last? They will last about 6 months to 1 year depending on hair quality, and at-home care. Hand-tied wefts tend to be fragile and may be damaged quicker than other hair extension types.

The above is a generality based on averages, variables may occur.
I consider hair extensions a luxury, therefore, they must suit your budget. That being said, a tremendous amount of people find them to be life-changing. If the price point is out of your budget, consider using less to achieve a voluminous style.
